It doesn’t take words
to grasp loss.
It’s that silence,
the awkwardness,
the language of touch,
of positioning oneself
beside the other
that gives away—
even though
some things never change,
they’ll also never be the same.
Rejoice in what is here— now—
don’t mourn already
for what will not be.
Things change, people change
and that is a constant truth
for eternity, and so I ask—
Would there be loss
if change was accepted by all?
It is what it is they say, but
is it? Knowledge is power
they say, then why do our
hearts break despite knowing
that history repeats itself?
Change— though constant—
is never predetermined,
for time is deceptive
and our imagination
wild, vivid and ever anticipating.
